Construction of a Model Era Canal Boat

The museum is undergoing a project to construct a scale model of an canal boat. The boat is being built using tranditional tools and techniques on the grounds of the museum.

The boat construction project was proposed as three disjoint or exploded sections (aft, midships, and bow) that would expose museum visitors to traditional building methods. Currently, construction of both the aft and midships sections are complete. The all-volunteer boat building team recently attended a workshop in which techniques for steam bending wood for construction of the canal boat's bow section were demonstrated.
